We love vacations. We love new experiences, new places. We very much dislike airports but I suppose we have to tolerate them for safety reasons. Some of our fondest memories are eating in Johnson’s Restaurant in Ephraim, Wisconsin where there were goats on the roof. Or Custer State Park in Wyoming where we had to wait for a herd of bison to get out of the road. Trust me; they never get in a hurry. Or Estes Park where we stopped to let a large bull elk cross the road with-in a few feet of people. He ignored them. God is magnificent; He can never be praised enough. There are no boundaries to His greatness (Psalm 145:3)
But by far my favorite part of the whole travel experience is coming home to the recognizable sights, smells and sounds of home. There’s something seriously comforting about coming home. The familiar is where we feel safe. After being gone for several days, as soon as we pull in our drive I thank God for a safe trip.
Unfortunately, for many families this isn’t the case. Our homes and families don’t always live up to our hopes and expectations. We’ve come to realize that the idea of a completely functional and perfect family is something of a myth. For too many people, family life is not the safe haven of peace that it was originally intended to be.
So how can we find a sense of peace and security? The Bible speaks about one homecoming that will be extremely joyous. No earthly homecoming can compare with the joy of coming home to God. First John 4:19 says, “We love because He first loved us.” If your heart is restless, struggling to find peace in an earthly home, there’s a Father waiting to welcome His children home.
Bible Verse: 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
Thought for the day: Service is love in action.
